Description
The National Instruments SCXI-2400 Serial Interface Module is designed to control any SCXI chassis through the convenience of an RS-232 or RS-485 port, compatible with SCXI-1000, SCXI-1000DC, and SCXI-1001 chassis models.
For connections, it utilizes either an RS-232 Type 5 null modem cable or an RS-485 4-wire cable and ferrite, requiring a computer that has either an RS-232 or RS-485 port.
This module is compatible with software such as LabVIEW for Windows, LabWindows/CVI for Windows, or NI-DAQ for PC compatibles, and offers the SCXI-1200 DAQ module as an optional accessory.
The baud rate on the SCXI-2400 is configurable and must be set identically for all chassis on the same RS-485 network, which can be done using switches numbered 9 through 12 on the module’s front panel.
While the HDLC address is also configurable, the default factory setting is 1, which suffices unless multiple chassis are being used. The RS-232 port can control only one chassis from a single serial port, whereas the RS-485 port has the capability to manage multiple chassis from a single serial port.
Despite the obsolete status announced by National Instruments, the SCXI-2400 remains available for purchase and repairs.

Question 1: What are the key features and software compatibilities of the National Instruments SCXI-2400 Serial Interface Module, and how do its connectivity capabilities vary between using an RS-232 port and an RS-485 port?
Answer 1: To configure the baud rate on multiple chassis using the National Instruments SCXI-2400 Serial Interface Module, you must set switches numbered 9 through 12 identically on the front panel of each module to ensure they all communicate at the same baud rate on the same RS-485 network.
Question 2: What are the different chassis models that the National Instruments SCXI-2400 Serial Interface Module is designed to control, and how does it differ in managing multiple chassis when using RS-232 and RS-485 ports?
Answer 2: The National Instruments SCXI-2400 Serial Interface Module can control SCXI-1000, SCXI-1000DC, and SCXI-1001 chassis models, and it is compatible with LabVIEW for Windows, LabWindows/CVI for Windows, and NI-DAQ for PC compatibles.
Question 3: What types of chassis can be controlled using the National Instruments SCXI-2400 Serial Interface Module, and what software is it compatible with?
Answer 3: The National Instruments SCXI-2400 Serial Interface Module is capable of managing multiple SCXI chassis using an RS-485 port, allowing for a network of chassis to be controlled from a single serial port; however, when using the RS-232 port, it is limited to controlling only one chassis per serial port.
Question 4: What are the capabilities and limitations of the National Instruments SCXI-2400 Serial Interface Module when connecting to multiple SCXI chassis using RS-232 and RS-485 ports?
Answer 4: The National Instruments SCXI-2400 Serial Interface Module is designed to control the SCXI-1000, SCXI-1000DC, and SCXI-1001 chassis models; it differs in managing multiple chassis by allowing control of only one chassis via an RS-232 port, whereas with an RS-485 port, it can manage multiple chassis from a single serial port.
Question 5: What is the process for configuring the baud rate on multiple chassis using the National Instruments SCXI-2400 Serial Interface Module’s front panel switches?
Answer 5: The National Instruments SCXI-2400 Serial Interface Module features control over SCXI chassis via RS-232 or RS-485 ports, with compatibility for SCXI-1000, SCXI-1000DC, and SCXI-1001 chassis models, and supports software such as LabVIEW for Windows, LabWindows/CVI for Windows, and NI-DAQ for PC compatibles. It offers an optional SCXI-1200 DAQ module accessory and configurable baud rates. Connectivity capabilities differ in
