    Description

    The National Instruments SCXI-2400 Serial Interface Module is designed to control any SCXI chassis through the convenience of an RS-232 or RS-485 port, compatible with SCXI-1000, SCXI-1000DC, and SCXI-1001 chassis models.

    For connections, it utilizes either an RS-232 Type 5 null modem cable or an RS-485 4-wire cable and ferrite, requiring a computer that has either an RS-232 or RS-485 port.

    This module is compatible with software such as LabVIEW for Windows, LabWindows/CVI for Windows, or NI-DAQ for PC compatibles, and offers the SCXI-1200 DAQ module as an optional accessory.

    The baud rate on the SCXI-2400 is configurable and must be set identically for all chassis on the same RS-485 network, which can be done using switches numbered 9 through 12 on the module’s front panel.

    While the HDLC address is also configurable, the default factory setting is 1, which suffices unless multiple chassis are being used. The RS-232 port can control only one chassis from a single serial port, whereas the RS-485 port has the capability to manage multiple chassis from a single serial port.

    Despite the obsolete status announced by National Instruments, the SCXI-2400 remains available for purchase and repairs.
