Description
HP/Agilent 6266B DC Power Supply
The 6266B DC Power Supply by HP/Agilent has several operational modes for the user to choose from, including: auto-parallel, auto-series, and auto-tracking. The auto-tracking mode permits the user to have two or three power supplies that have a collective negative output bus to power individual loads. These power supplies can also have their outputs programmed by the current and voltage controls of a master supply at the same time. The power supply with the highest output voltage must be designated as the master power supply, unless the outputs are the same. Every slave power supply’s output voltage will stay a constant percentage of the master’s.
The HP/Agilent 6266B comes with a constant-voltage and constant-current automatic crossover feature to protect the power supply. This crossover feature makes the 6266B well-suited for battery charging applications. With this feature, a battery can be charged at a constant-current until the highest charge voltage is obtained. Then, the power supply will transfer to constant-voltage mode and maintain a small charge current adequate to keep up the maximum charge. Therefore, the charging process can be left unmonitored after the charging rate and highest charge voltage have been designated and the battery has been linked to the output terminals of the power supply.
However, if the 6266B is used to charge a battery, make sure to install a protective diode CRp in series with the battery. Further information about this process and other cautionary notes can be found in the HP/Agilent 6266B user manual on the apexwaves.com website.
