8510C by HP Agilent is a Vector Network Analyzer in the 8510 series. 8510 features a Frequency Range of 45 MHz to 110 GHz and a Dynamic Range dependent on the module used.

The HP Agilent 8510C Vector Network Analyzer has the capability of measuring the phase, group delay, and magnitude of two-port networks to characterize their linear performance. This Vector Network Analyzer has the option of showing a network’s time domain reaction to an impulse or a step waveform by calculating the inverse Fourier transform of the frequency domain reaction. The HP Agilent 8510C can complete broadband measurements ranging from 45 MHz to 50 GHz in 2.4 mm coax, from 45 MHz to 110 GHz in 1.0 mm coax, and from 33 GHz to 110 GHz in waveguide bands. The older version of the 8510C has a cathode ray tube (CRT) display screen, while the updated version has a liquid crystal display (LCD).

The 8510C Vector Network Analyzer is a versatile system, which can have multiple sources, S-parameter test sets, or test accessories to fit the user’s measurement specifications. The minimum configuration must be comprised of a test set, a source, and the vector network analyzer. The source delivers the RF signal. For the source, an 835x Series sweep oscillator or an 834x Series synthesized sweeper, along with the correct 835x series plug-in, can be utilized. The test set separates the signal generated by the source into an incident signal, delivers it to the device-under-test, and a reference signal which will be contrasted with the reflected and transmitted signals. Other system parts that can be added are GPIB devices, including: a disc drive, printer, or plotter. These devices can each be controlled with the front panel keys on the 8510C.
