The HP Agilent 8647A Synthesized Signal Generator is designed for manufacturing high-volume products including the following: pagers, two-way radios, and cordless phones. The 8647A is suitable for semi-automated receiver tests and various general purpose applications. The all-electronic attenuator in this model can go through millions of amplitude cycles with output levels that are repeatable. Although the 8647A Signal Generator is the basic model in the 86xx Signal Generator Series, it still has the necessary performance at a more affordable cost.

The 8647A Synthesized Signal Generator has a frequency range from 250 kHz to 1000 MHz. The typical switching speed is <120 ms. The 8647A has an HP-IB interface, which can be used for remote programming for automated test applications. The HP-IB utilizes SCPI programming codes. Moreover, the front panel of this model is easy to control, with a simple design that decreases training time and improves production rates. The front panel is arranged in functional blocks, which helps recognize the task more quickly and simplifies the process as well. This Signal Generator has a warm-up time of one hour and an operating temperature range of 0 to +50 degrees C.

There are 300 complete storage registers and ten user-definable sequences available, which makes the model flexible enough for any testing process. After setups are saved in registers, operators can swiftly search through them. Setups can be accessed through the front panel or a remote keypad (HP 83300A). Also, the HP 83301A memory interface allows the user to transport register data from one Agilent 8647A to another.
