Description
Item #: 8665A
Manufacturer: Agilent
Series: 86xx
8665A by Agilent is a High-Performance RF Signal Generator in the 86xx series. 8665A features a Frequency Range of 100 kHz to 4.2 GHz and an Output Level of +13 to -139.9 dBm.
The HP Agilent 8665A is a High-Performance RF Signal Generator has equivalent performance to the 8664A and 8665B. The main differences between the three models are the frequency ranges. The 8665A covers a frequency range from 100 kHz to 4.2 GHz. The Agilent 8665A is ideal for general purpose RF testing. This model is suitable for out-of-channel receiver test applications with Option 4 (low-noise enhancement) and for radar testing applications with Option 8 (pulse modulation). This Signal Generator can also be used for higher-rate digital communications because of its FM rates as high as 2 MHz and deviations to 20 MHz peak.
The Agilent 8665A Signal Generator has a remote programming capability through the HP-IB interface. The model also has an internal dual-source modulation, module level service diagnostics, digitally-stepped frequency sweeping, and an internal modulation source of 0.1 Hz to 400 kHz with sine, triangle, white Gaussian noise, sawtooth, or square waveforms.
Three types of modulation are available for the Agilent 8665A: AM, FM, and Pulse (with Option 8). The 8665A High-Performance RF Signal Generator creates FM in several ways: digitized FM synthesis and linear FM synthesis. Digitized FM synthesis is the default way to create FM, while linear FM synthesis has to be accessed from Special Function 120. The user can choose which method to implement. Carrier frequency accuracy measures the frequency change in the RF output relative to the frequency the user wants. Digitized DC FM synthesis has higher carrier frequency accuracy when compared to linear DC FM. However, linear AC FM synthesis has higher carrier frequency accuracy when compared to digitized AC FM.
