The HP Agilent 8340A Synthesized Sweeper has a frequency range encompassing from 10 MHz to 26.5 GHz, CW switching times of >50 ms, and a dc-coupled AM modulation with a 3 dB bandwidth of 100 kHz. This model is well-suited for precision microwave network assessment and can also be used as a general purpose source on its own. A few of the features of this model include: five calibrated frequency markers, various sweep modes, the capability of saving and recalling a maximum of nine front panel settings, precision analog sweeps as narrow as 100 Hz, and an alternate sweep function.
On the front panel display of the 8340A Synthesized Sweeper, the present active function and its correct values will appear. The user can swiftly complete data entry with the numeric keyboard, RPG (Rotary Pulse Generator), or step keys. Every front panel function is programmable via the HP-IB bus. The only exception is the lines switch. The 8340A Synthesized Sweeper has an internal self-test, which will automatically run every time the model is turned on or when the INSTR PRESET key on the front panel is pressed. Furthermore, front panel diagnostic procedures are available to help with discovering and singling out faults.
The HP Agilent 8340A also has several options, which can be added if the user desires further capabilities. For example, Option 1 will get rid of the programmable attenuator, therefore making the lower limit of the output power range -20 dBm.
