The HP Agilent 8645A Agile Signal Generator is ideal for testing stringent RF performance and fast hopping capability of frequency agile radios and surveillance receivers. This Agile Signal Generator can also simulate a complicated environment to assess for proneness to interference or give a fast-switching stimulus for lowering production analysis time. The 8645A has a frequency range covering from 252 kHz to 2,060 MHz. The phase noise for this model is < -127 dBc and spurious amplitudes are < -100 dBc at a 20 kHz offset from the carrier.

The 8645A Agile Signal Generator provides flexible control of frequency switching. The user can input parameters from the front panel with GPIB or from the back panel with TTL connectors. Widespread hopped frequency simulations can be entered into the nonvolatile memory via the front panel. The system will be working swiftly without the necessity of a different interface. In order to initiate a hopped sequence, the user can push a button. The other option is to enter the date in a computer with HPSL (Hewlett-Packard Systems Language), then begin the pattern with one command. The user is able to control the dwell time, frequency, amplitude, hop rate, and modulation. If real-time control is desired, the back panel is compatible with TTL inputs for dwell time, triggering, and frequency selection.

The Agilent 8645A allows the user to exercise their receiver’s vulnerability to different RF signal environments. Frequency, amplitude, modulation, and hop parameters can be controlled to optimize performance. The user can stretch each parameter of a nominal signal to assess the receiver’s limits.
