The HP Agilent 8642B is a Synthesized Signal Generator created for out-of-channel RF receiver measurements and other challenging RF applications. This model has a frequency range from 100 kHz to 2,115 MHz. Other than differing frequency ranges, the 8642B is similar to the 8642A.

The 8642B Synthesized Signal Generator can precisely measure receiver sensitivities in R&D or on the production line. The absolute output level accuracy is +1 dB to -127 dBm. The output level repetitiveness is attained with a high reliability attenuator created for ongoing ATE system use. The attenuator can be set at any output level setting with level switched down or up 10 dB in a transient free method. Additionally, in receiver design, there is adequate output power to drive high level mixers and achieve receiver blocking assessments. Intermodulation measurements can be performed with competence because intermodulation distortion devices on the 8642B are stated.

The Agilent 8642B also has AM, FM, and pulse modulation throughout the complete frequency range with a dual output section to increase modulation specifications at lower carrier frequencies. This model utilizes an RF divider output chain to attain lower frequency coverage with higher spectral purity. The 8642B Synthesized Signal Generator can switch in an independent heterodyne (HET) output section below 132.2 MHz to attain better modulation performance over the split up output. While assessing FM mobile radios, the 8642B has a built-in 750 us preemphasis (FM PRE) to make receiver flatness assessments simpler. The modulation capability enables two-tone modulation assessments at the same time.
