The HP Agilent 8643A High-Performance RF Signal Generator has a frequency range encompassing 252 kHz to 1,030 MHz, or all the way to 2,060 MHz with Option 2 added. This model is suitable for RF communications such as out-of-channel tests and general purpose, avionics, component tests, and radar/EW testing. The 8643A has an electronic attenuator for high use and is one of the most affordable options in the 86xx Signal Generator Series. The 8643A RF Signal Generator has an HP-IB interface. This model is suitable for receivers with <90 dB selectivity and/or spurious immunity of <85 dB.
The Agilent 8643A RF Signal Generator does not have as many options as some of the other models in the series, but does have multiple performance and feature capabilities that are typical. The 8643A uses solid-state components precise within 1.0 dB, instead of utilizing mechanical relays to establish levels. The design created by Agilent utilizes PIN switching elements with 3,000,000 hours of MTBF, allowing the attenuator to reach an approximate 0.2% failure rate. This RF Signal Generator comes equipped with an innovative internal modulation synthesizer that covers to 400 kHz and has two-tone capability with the user’s choice of square, sawtooth, sine, and white Gaussian noise waveforms.
The 8643A RF Signal Generator also has an option for a 2 GHz frequency counter (Option 11). Option 11 is utilized through the front panel connector; it is an economic answer to applications with local oscillator, IF, transmitter, and audio frequency measurements. Option 11 eradicates the necessity to externally couple the timebase references while operating an external counter.
