The HP Agilent 8648D Economy RF Signal Generator covers a frequency range from 9 kHz to 4,000 MHz, has a resolution of 0.001 Hz, a typical switching speed <75 ms, an aging rate < ± 2 ppm/year, and an output range from +13 to -136 dBm. This model should be calibrated every two years with normal use of approximately 2,000 hours each year. The 8648A Signal Generator is an economical choice. This product will save the user money and still give the performance necessary for semi-automated receiver testing and use in many general-purpose applications.

The Agilent 8648D has some parts which can be replaced or exchanged. After a part is taken out or exchanged, it is suggested to complete related changes and performance assessment processes before calibrating the Signal Generator. A few of the parts that can be replaced are: the RF output Type-N Connector, the keypad, the display mount, the power supply, the knob-cursor, the cover display, and various others. When compared to the 8647A, the 8648D Economy RF Signal Generator has improvements in frequency range, level accuracy, residual FM, phase noise, and optional high power, waveform modulation, and pulse modulation. This model also has ±1 dB absolute amplitude accuracy as high as 2.5 GHz. The 8648D has ultra stable dc FM, with ±500 Hz carrier frequency accuracy below frequencies of 1001 MHz, and low RF leakage. Receiver tuning and alignment applications greatly profit from the easy-to-use interface.
