The HP Agilent 8662A High-Performance RF Signal Generator is well-suited for numerous satellite communication, radar, and phase noise measurement applications. This High-Performance RF Signal Generator provides flexible AM/FM, by utilizing interior 400 Hz and 1 kHz rates or externally applied modulating signals which can be ac- or dc-coupled. Along with the aforementioned features, there is a simultaneous modulation function. Additionally, the 8662A has the U.S. Air Force MATE (Modular Automatic Test Equipment) capability with Option 700 added. Option 700 is an exterior translator that permits the signal generator to be operated by the MATE language CIIL (Control Interface Immediate Language). This model covers a frequency range from 10 kHz to 1,280 MHz.

The Agilent 8662A Signal Generator has an HP-IB interface, which can be operated with any HP-IB computing controller or computer for automatic system applications. The 8662A is programmable through the HP Interface Bus. HP-IB is Hewlett-Packard’s version of IEEE Standard 488 and the equivalent ANSI Standard MC1.1

The 8662A High-Performance RF Signal Generator comes equipped with reverse power safety as high as 30 watts, great spectral purity, five digital markers, and keyboard control of all functions. The Agilent 8662A also has five selectable sweep speeds: 0.5 ms, 1 ms, 2 ms, 10 ms, and 100 ms per step. The start-stop sweep mode sweeps among two chosen frequencies. The span sweep mode runs a symmetrical sweep with center frequency chosen. Step size can be specified by the user to either 100 or 1,000 points per sweep. It can also be set to any value within the frequency resolution of the model.
