The TLA704 Logic Analyzer Mainframe designed by Tektronix is a configurable instrument, which is a combination of a high-performing logic analyzer with a digitizing storage oscilloscope. There are both portable and benchtop TLA704 Mainframes. Various logic analyzer modules can be inserted into the TLA704, creating many different combinations of memory depth and channel width. The logic analyzer modules have a feature called MagniVu, which is an acquisition technology that allows the logic analyzer modules to provide 500 picosecond timing resolution on every channel. MagniVu information is always accessible for every channel and does not necessitate further probing. On the other hand, the digitizing storage oscilloscope (DSO) module provides real-time signal acquisition. DSO module information is relevant to other information from different modules, for signaling, displays, and intermodule triggering.

The user interface on the Tektronix TLA704 Logic Analyzer is familiar and easy to use. As an added benefit, any PC-compatible, third-party software and hardware can be installed on the TLA704. Another way to control the TLA704 is through the TLA700 Programmatic Interface (TPI). TPI permits the user to control the TLA704 from a different program running either on the logic analyzer or on a remote host. An online TPI user manual can be printed from the logic analyzer for additional information.

The Tektronix TLA704 Logic Analyzer has the capability of merging two logic analyzer modules. This increases the channel width. A merged module works as one instrument and the information it obtains is automatically time-correlated. Modules must have equivalent maximum state speed and must be physically linked in the mainframe prior to merging by software.
