The CSA8000B Communications Signal Analyzer manufactured by Tektronix can accommodate a maximum of four dual-channel electrical sampling modules and two single-channel optical sampling modules, for a total of eight inputs maximum (either eight electrical or two optical and six electrical). The Tektronix CSA8000B is ideal for manufacturing/testing for ITU/ANSI Conformance and designing/confirmation of telecom and datacom requirements. The rise time/bandwidth varies based on the sampling modules used. The maximum trigger rate is 200 kHz and the typical acquisition rate is 150 Ksamples/sec per channel. The record length can be 20, 50, 100, 250, 500, 1,000, 2,000, or 4,000 samples.

The CSA8000B can support as many as eight measurements at the same time and is updated three times every second with an optional display of per measurement data (including standard deviation, mean, min, and max). The automated measurements include NRZ, RZ, Pulse signal types, and various others. Every optical module is equipped with the elements needed for communications testing, such as an average power monitor, a low-noise electrical sampler, a full bandwidth path, an optical to electrical converter, and as many as five data rate filters. Additionally, clock recovery is accessible as an option for the majority of the optical modules.

The Tektronix CSA8000B Communications Signal Analyzer is designed from Tektronix’s sampling oscilloscope platform which has MS Windows-based PC technologies and waveform acquisition technology. This platform delivers a variety of standard instrumentation and communications interfaces, such as parallel printer port, GPIB, and RS-232-C. Also, the platform has a few mass storage devices (CD-ROM, a removable hard drive, and a floppy disk).
